Porvorim: Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte on Friday wrote to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant urging him to go for complete lockdown of 15 days and thereafter review the situation.

In a letter to Sawant, Khaunte said that instead of having stagnated lockdowns which will affect the local business model and the mindset of the people who will tend to do panic buying, we should go in for a complete lockdown for 15 days and thereafter review our situation.

Khaunte has also demanded immediate sealing of border. “Neighbouring states like Karnataka and Maharashtra have sealed their borders and as such, Goa has no reason not to follow the trend to protect their people.”

“Therefore, immediate and strict SOPs with negative certificate should be made compulsory at borders. In addition , transportation of essential commodities  should be allowed only with passes which will avoid the quarantine tourism trend to repeat itself unlike in the first covid phase.”

Khaunte said that the patients need to be able to have a touch point assistance person like a PRO Office which can be headed by an IAS officer, who can provide immediate information on the availability of beds, oxygen, and ventilators in the state.

The MLA said that the  biggest challenge in this phase is the patients with symptoms are testing negative  and the minimum turnaround time for RT-PCR Test report is 4-5 days. “Therefore, we need to improve the turnaround time on test results and start treatment on symptomatic patients on priority basis as unnecessary delay would make it more difficult to treat a particularly symptomatic patient.

Khaunte also said that substantiate delay in shifting patients from their home to the hospital has created panic amongst people, as there is a limited number of government operated Ambulances. In such cases, Ambulances from private hospitals and other private sources can help bridge the gap.
