Panaji : Ramakant D Khalap, ex union minister of India and Deputy Chief Minister of Goa has expressed gratitude in a recent facebook post for getting grants for his Mandrem College of Commerce and Management after almost 8 years of endeavour in court. In a recent FB post he wrote :
“Happy to announce that the eight year old struggle of Mandre College for survival has ended in Victory.  The Government has finally  complied with High Court directions to release grants. Thank you CM.   Thanks to all who extended support all these long years.  Thanks to teachers who suffered  delays in payment of salaries. Thanks to students who did exceedingly well in their studies.  Thanks to parents for reposing faith in the institution..  Thanks to Adv Surendra Desai and Parag Rao who fought gratuitously all  legal battles for us..  Thanks to my wife, sons,  daughters-in -law and my grandchildren for permitting me to use their savings for a great cause. God is certainly Great…  Happy Gudi Padwa..  May we all have a great New Year”
Khalap’s college’s grants were granted but were subsequently taken back by the government in 2013 on grounds that Pernem college already existed nearby and Quality of education will reduce if grants were given to this college. “These are completely frivolous grounds,” said Khalap. Recently he won the case in High Court and the government released the grants for Mandrem College of Commerce and Management.
