PWD Minister assures to scrap Assnora-Mulgao road widening project; Vijai says TCP had resolved it

Porvorim:  PWD Minister Deepak Pawaskar assured House to scrap the proposed widening of road stretch from Assnora-Mulgao bridge and to go for by-pass road as notified under Regional Plan 2021.

The House was debating during the Calling attention motion moved by BJP MLA Pravin Zyante, who said that people of Mulgao village in Bicholim taluka are against the proposed project of road widening at a stretch of approximately 7.9 km from Assnora –Mulgao bridge to Shantadurga High School in Bicholim.

He said that the existing road width is 7 meters to 15 meters whereas the proposed road width is 25 meters to 30 meters, due to which more than 500 people will be displaced and 50 to 60 houses will be demolished.

MLA brought to the notice of the House that in RP 21 there is a notified by-pass passing through the village and that government should consider it.

Earlier speaking, Speaker said that former Chief Minister late Manohar Parrikar has promised the villagers that the project will be scrapped. He said that there is no really requirement of the road widening when a by-pass is already proposed.

Goa Forward Party (GFP) MLA Vijai Sardesai informed House that during his tenure as TCP Minister, the TCP board had resolved to write to PWD to scrap the land acquisition process. He said accordingly, letter was written to PWD in June, this year.
