Vasco: Vasco Railway Police on Thursday arrested a staff attached to pantry service of Goa Express Train on South Western Railway route for possessing drugs.
Mohammad Gulzar Shaikh (33), originally from Muzaffarpur, Bihar was arrested by Vasco Railway Police when he was found to be carrying sixty grams of ganja worth Rs 10,000.
Police spokesman said that the accused was arrested on the platform of Vasco railway station, 40 kms away from here.
The raid was conducted by police after receiving reliable information that a person working with pantry section of Goa Express train was carrying the banned substance to deliver it to a customer in Goa.
Police said that the accused is working with M/s Sarfraz Khan and Company for last three months. He has been posted on different routes on behalf of the company.
“This was his second trip to Vasco,” police said adding that the accused was earlier working in Saudi Arabia for five years before shifting back to india.
The spokesman said that during the interrogation, the accused has said that he had purchased the drugs from New Delhi railway station. He claimed that he does not know the name of the person from whom he had purchased it.
The team headed by PSI Yeshwant Raikar, Police constable Shiva Chalwadi, Prasad Velip and Sushil Naik participated in the raid.
