Mandrem: Goa Police on Thursday arrested a 51-year-old Russian national for possessing drugs, while he was out on bail after being earlier arrested for murdering a fellow national girl in the coastal state.
Superintendent of Police (North) Rahul Gupta said that Mandrem Police arrested Denis Kriuchkoy for possessing drugs worth ₹3.65 lakh during a raid at Madhlawada, Arambol, in North Goa.
Gupta said that the accused was found in illegal possession of a blackish-coloured sticky substance suspected to be charas weighing 300 grams, worth ₹3,00,000, and a brownish-coloured crystal-like substance suspected to be MDMA weighing 6.45 grams, worth ₹65,000, along with one mobile phone of make ‘Infinix’ with a blue-coloured body panel—all worth ₹3,65,000.
He was arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
Gupta said that Kriuchkoy, a Russian national, had arrived in Goa in the year 2017 and since then had been residing in the Anjuna area.
“During his stay in Goa, he became actively involved in drug trafficking activities. In the year 2021, he was arrested by Anjuna Police Station for committing the murder of a Russian girl,” the SP said.
The Russian was later released on bail by the court, he added.
Gupta said that despite being out on bail, Kriuchkoy continued his involvement in illicit activities.
“Surveillance and intelligence reports were maintained on his activities and whereabouts by PI Mandrem PS under the supervision of SDPO Pernem and SP North, and it was revealed that Mr. Denis had resumed drug trafficking operations. He was suspected of supplying narcotic substances in the areas of Anjuna, Calangute, Arambol, and Mandrem.”
Further investigation of the case is in progress with PSI Kunal Naik of Mandrem PS under the supervision of PI Girendre J. Naik of Mandrem Police Station, with overall supervision by SDPO Pernem, Salim Shaikh, and SP North, Rahul Gupta, IPS.
