National Games player along with his accomplice arrested for series of house breaking thefts in Goa

Panaji: Goa Police on Wednesday arrested two persons including a snooker player who had participated in the recently held National Games 2023 for a series of house breakings and two-wheeler thefts.

Superintendent of Police (North) Nidhin Valsan told reporters on Wednesday that two accused Suleman Shaikh and Shabbirsaheb Shalavadi were arrested in connection with series of house breaking thefts and two  wheeler thefts across the state.

Valsan said that Suleman is a professional snooker player and had even represented the state for recently held National Games 2023.

He said that both the accused had resorted to crime due to their addiction of visiting casinos and also lavish lifestyle.

Valsan said that both the accused are involved in two house breaking theft cases at Porvorim, one each at Mapusa and Mardol (all in North Goa) and a bike theft case at Margao in South Goa.

He said after their arrest properties including gold, total worth Rs 17 lakh were recovered from them.

Valsan said that the state police had to scan at least fifty CCTV cameras from the location of the crime to track down the accused.

He said that both the accused were arrested at Porvorim, on the outskirts of Panaji on Wednesday.

“During the questioning (after they were stopped at the road) the suspects made an attempt to flee from the spot but they were chased and overpowered and detained,” the SP said.
