Panaji : Minister from Calangute Constituency, Michael Lobo has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Shaktikanta Das explaining to them the plight of small businessmen in Goa.
Speaking to the Media he said, “Last year the government extended the time to pay loan interest by six months, but this year too this benefit needs to be extended. Small businessmen of Goa had to keep their shops closed during the curfew the government should ask the banks to give extension of time in repayment of loans”
“Businessmen in Goa are interdependent on each other and since the tourism activity was greatly reduced, all the businessmen are living under the threat of closing down” lamented Lobo.
Lobo informed that the cabinet has decided  they will give a sum of five thousand to small businessmen of Goa.
“I am not asking to waive off the loan, I am merely asking to extend the time to repay. I have also requested them to not charge penal interest, that is charging interest on the current interest,” Lobo stated.
Lobo asserted that he believes that the Government is duty bound to give this relief to small businessmen.
