Panaji: Lamenting that the government has failed to fulfill their demands of employment, Goan lifeguards on Monday held protest at Azad Maidan Panaji demanding the same. Swat Kerkar, who is leading the protest came down heavily upon the chief minister and said, “CM Pramod Sawant has made empty promises of giving employment to these lifeguards, now they have been unemployed for fourteen months. We will continue to protest till CM comes out with a concrete solution.”
The lifeguards had also protested outside CM’s residence earlier but did not find a solution to their problems. Senior Congress leader and MLA Digambar Kamat was also seen visiting the lifeguards at Azad Maidan. The lifeguards who have saved the lives of tourists and Goans from drowning in the sea now fight for their own survival as they await government to provide them employment which will help them earn daily bread and butter.
