KTCL Modernizes Fare Collection to Boost Transparency and Curb Losses
Panaji, July 7 – In a major digital push, the Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) will phase out paper-based monthly passes and fully adopt smart e-transit cards starting August 1. The transition aims to enhance transparency, curb misuse, and reduce revenue leakages.
Paper Passes to Be Discontinued by July 31
KTCL Chairman Ulhas Tuenkar announced that the existing paper pass system will be discontinued after July 31. The move is part of a broader initiative to modernise public transportation services and streamline ticketing through digital systems.
Two Types of Digital Passes to Be Issued
KTCL will issue two types of smart e-transit passes:
General e-Transit Cards for regular commuters.
Special e-Passes for students and other eligible categories.
Tuenkar emphasized that existing subsidies and concessions will remain intact. “Only the format is changing—from paper to digital,” he said.
Introductory Discount and Awareness Campaigns Launched
As part of the rollout, KTCL is offering a 10% discount on the new smart cards. Awareness campaigns have already begun at major bus stands to help commuters understand the new system and its usage.
Route-Specific Use and Daily Journey Limit
A KTCL official clarified that the new e-transit cards will be route-specific. Commuters must use the card for predefined start and end points, and only one journey per day is permitted on the designated route.
“If a passenger boards mid-route or deviates from the set route, they will need to purchase a separate ticket,” the official said, highlighting the system’s stricter control to prevent misuse.
Online Purchase Available, But Technical Glitches Reported
Passengers can purchase the smart cards via KTCL’s official website, although some users have reported technical difficulties during registration and online payments. Despite these early challenges, KTCL remains optimistic about the long-term benefits.
KTCL Aims for Greater Efficiency and Accountability
KTCL believes that the full transition to digital fare collection will significantly improve operational efficiency and enhance accountability, ushering in a more transparent and modern public transport system in Goa.
