Panaji: Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, on Friday announced that water metro services would be introduced in Goa.
Sonowal was speaking to reporters after inaugurating the new building of the Captain of Ports Department in Panaji city in the presence of Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and others.
“I would especially like to thank the Goa government. From our ministry’s side, we have decided to bring projects worth Rs 2,000 crore to promote the maritime sector in Goa in the coming days,” the minister said.
Sonowal said that, while giving special importance to water metro services, the ministry also plans to introduce a water metro system in Goa for the convenience of the people.
Referring to the newly inaugurated building, the minister said that it is a significant achievement because its design is truly commendable.
“It has been thoughtfully inspired by ships and reflects Goa’s rich historical background and maritime legacy,” he said.
“Through this initiative, the government has taken a strong step towards preserving and promoting Goa’s maritime heritage. This is in line with the vision of our respected Prime Minister, who always says, ‘Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi’ (Development as well as Heritage),” he said.
