Panaji: Deputy Chief Minister Vijai Sardesai on Wednesday accused Goa University of manipulating the reservation roster to deny deserving Goan Other Backward Class and Scheduled Tribe candidates, the required posts.

Goa University is in the controversy after it dropped the criteria of 15 years’ domicile for filing 60-odd posts at different level, which had evoked strong reaction from Goa Forward Party, an alliance partner in the government.

Sardesai, who is also Goa Forward Party Chief, has written a strong worded letter to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant claiming that Goa University was trying to give jobs to non-Goans.

“It is also learnt that the reservation roster has been manipulated to deny deserving Goans OBC or ST candidates these posts, this needs to be investigated thoroughly , it is alleged that the manipulation have been cleverly done so that posts, for which Goan candidates are eligible, are advertised in the general category,” Sardesai said, a day after he spoke about weaponising youths to protect Goanness.

“It is also learnt that Goa university authorities are reluctant to apply the requirement of minimum period of domicile which is part of the university statue, but which they claim will be struck down by court of law,” he claimed. “This is another ploy to deny Goans their rights  by not implementing the domicile requirement. The university authorities do not have any right to bypass the university statute by themselves without any relaxation granted by the government,” Sardesai added.

He said that a sinister plan is also being hatched by these authorities themselves to ensure that some individual approaches the courts to strike down the requirement.

“The government should be prepared to meet this eventuality,” he said.

The Deputy Chief Minister also said that there appears to be a deliberate ploy by Goa University to confuse and give scope for ambiguity on the issue of Domicile for filling these posts (in all the categories).

He said that the requirement of knowledge of Konkani has been maintained, dropping domicile criteria, but it is understood that certain favoured prospective applicants for the above posts have been taking Konkani lessons for the last one year , so that they may become eligible for the posts.

“This is absolute favouritism as these individuals, who are all non goans have been assured recruitment, thus denying genuine and deserving Goans from securing these posts,” he said.
