Panaji: BJP today filed a complaint before Chief Electoral officer (CEO) against Congress candidate Babush Monserratte, alleging that he has failed to disclose the criminal cases pending against him through media advertisement, which is mandatory as per the Supreme Court directions.
BJP Presidnet Vinay Tendulkar in his complaint before the CEO Kunal has said that Monserratte and the Congress party has violated the mandatory provision laid down by the Election Commission of India as per Supreme Court directives and hence attracts serious case of contempt of Court.
“We demand that CEO takes strong cognizance of the same and direct both the Congress party and its candidate to comply with the Supreme Court directions immediately, failing which necessary action be initiated,” Tendulkar said.
Tendulkar has pointed out that Monserratte in his affidavit has clearly declared that there are criminal cases pending against him under various sections of the IPC, POSCO, Income Tax Act, Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, etc. “
Speaking to media persons post filing complaint, BJP general secretary Sadanand Tanawade said that CEO has been informed that neither the Congress party nor its candidate has advertised the criminal antecedent in the media, as mandatory. “CEO has assured us to direct the North District Election officer to take necessary action in the matter,” he said.
