Goa to lift lockdown from Monday, COVID-19 restrictions to continue

Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday announced that the state will lift the lockdown from 6 a.m. tomorrow (Monday) while the COVID-19 restrictions will continue for another week.

Amidst rising demand for extended lockdown, Sawant said that the COVID-19 restrictions are kept in place to ensure that the spread of the virus is controlled.

“The lockdown in the state will be lifted from tomorrow 6 am onwards but the COVID-19 related restrictions will continue to be in place,” he said.

The state had imposed a lockdown from Thursday evening to control the rising number of COVID-19 cases.

Sawant said that various establishments including Casinos, Bars, Sports Complex, Auditoriums, Commuity Hall or similar places will remain closed along with River Cruises, Waterparks, Entertainment Parks, Gym, Spas, Massage Parlours, Saloons and others.

The schools, colleges, educational institutes will also remain closed except for the examination purpose.

Sawant said that religious places will be closed for public but the regular activities may continue in these places.

The chief inister said that the social, politial, sports entertainment, academic and cultural functions will be banned except for the events which are held with the permission of the government with 50 or less people.

He said that the cremation can be held with 20 or less people attending it.

The chief minister said that the gathering of five or more people will be strictly banned except for official functions or with the permission of Sub Divisional Magistrate.

Sawant said that the restaurants can run with 50 per cent capacity while fish markets, municipal or panchayat markets will remain functional with restricted capacity.
