Margao: The Goa Human Rights Commission on Sunday served a notice to the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) with directions to submit a detailed report with respect to the complaints filed by 12 garbage collection workers of the Margao Municipal Council.
In an order passed by GHRC Chairman Justice U V Bhakre, members Desmond D’costa and Pramod Kamat, the Commission has directed the MMC Chief Officer to submit a report on the complaints filed by the 12 garbage workers of the civic body on or before October 26, 2020.
Shadow Council for Margao convenor Savio Coutinho claimed that these workers were not paid salaries even after fulfilling all the criteria. “The workers were issued orders for regularization of their services on December 24, 2019. In Fact, during the course of handing over the orders to the workers, the Chairperson of MMC Pooja Naik stated that it was a Christmas gift for the workers.Subsequent to the orders dated Decemer 24, 2019, the 12 workers completed all the procedural formalities viz antecedent clearance for Police, medical fitness certificate etc. The workers even filed their joining report on December 26, 2019 and submitted all the mandatory documents required,”Coutinho informed.
