Mopa: AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday backed the demand for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls was being used to delete genuine voters and add fake names.
Kejriwal, who arrived in Goa on a four-day visit, said the issue had brought people together at the national level and alleged that questions were now being raised about the manner in which elections had been conducted in recent years.
“For the next three days, I have several meetings with different people and our workers. But I want to say that, at the national level, there is a demand for the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar,” Kejriwal said.
He alleged that the outcome of elections won by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the past few years was now being questioned in the context of the SIR exercise.
“It is coming out that the elections were won only through SIR, by getting genuine votes deleted and fake votes added to the voter list,” Kejriwal alleged.
He termed the alleged manipulation of electoral rolls as “wrong” and said it was against democracy.
“This is completely wrong. It is against democracy. They have made a mockery of democracy,” he said.
Kejriwal said the AAP supported the demand for Kumar’s resignation.
