Panaji: Goa government on Thursday initiated a high level inquiry after section of media reported about alleged harassment meted out to the relatives of deceased at the morgue attached to state-run Goa Medical College and Hospital, near here.
GMCH Dean Shivanand Bandekar in an order issued here this evening has constituted a four-member inquiry committee chaired by Director of Health Services Dattaram Sardesai. The other members of the committee belong to GMCH’s different departments including Dr Andre Fernandes, Dr Fatima D’Souza and Dr Francis Counto.
As per the order, the committee will have to give its report in next ten days.
Section of local media had reported that few staff attached to the morgue were extorting money from the relatives of the deceased under the pretext of dressing or embalming the bodies.
The media reports had claimed that there was full fleged racket which was being run to loot the gullible relatives.
Meanwhile, four staff attached to different departments are transferred from their posting through an order by the Dean. The reason for their transfer is not specified in the order.
