Panaji: Five interns of Goa Medical College and Hospital were found in possession with the drugs after which the college has filed formal complaint with the local police station.

Dean of Goa Medical College and Hospital Dr Shivanand Bandekar said that the interns were found with the possession of drugs at Boys Hostel of the college by the guard on the duty.

“The boys had arrived in a drunken stage late night to the hostel, three days back. During the checking, they were found in possession with ganja. The drugs was seized and immediately the local police outpost was alerted,” he said.

Bandekar alleged that Agacaim police, under whose jurisdiction the GMCH falls in, initially was reluctant to file the complaint but later agreed after the intervention of senior officials including State Health Secretary.

State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane confirming about the incident has said that he has asked the Dean to issue show cause notice to the warden of GMCH hostel.

“5 interns who were found with possession of drugs at GMC hostel campus will be rusticated, directions have been given to Dean of @GoaGmc in this matter. I have also instructed him to issue a show cause notice to the Warden and carry out a detailed investigation in this regard,” Rane tweeted.

“Out-station police has already registered a case with Agacaim police station. Such lapses in the institution will not be tolerated,” the Health minister said in a subsequent tweet.
