Fake currency scam: Police teams dispatched outside the state to track the source

Porvorim: The Goa Police have dispatched teams outside the State to track down the source of fake currency notes, which were confiscated from  five Chandigarh-based men, who were arrested in the coastal state on Monday.

Superintendent of Police (North) Utkrisht Prasoon said that the teams have been dispatched “outside the state” to track down the source of fake currency notes.

Panaji Police had arrested five accused, who were staying at a hotel in Calangute, for circulating “fake currency” notes in and around the state capital and its sub-urban Porvorim area.

All the five accused, originally from Chandigarh, were holidaying in the State. Fake currency of Rs 2.96 lakh in the denominations of Rs 100, Rs 200 and Rs 2,000 was confiscated from them.

They were produced before the local court on Tuesday, which granted them eight days police custody.
