The Aam Aadmi Party has asked the State Election Commission to forthwith announce the election schedule as well the reservation of seats by following the principle of rotation to end any speculation that may erode the commission’s credibility.

Addressing media in the presence of senior AAP leaders , Convenor Elvis Gomes said that the State Election Commission cannot behave like a department of the Government and wait for directions from political establishment of the BJP to announce election schedule. He said that the successive governments of Congress and BJP have given post retirement jobs to IAS officers from Uttar Pradesh, who had briefly served in Goa , as Chairman of the SEC.

Gomes said “Speculation is rife that Congressmen who have migrated into BJP are the cause of delay in the process due to their inability to zero in on suitable candidates. SEC is vulnerable to pressure. Silence from SEC is a sign of complicity . It must speak”. Speaking further, the AAP Chief said that the party in Goa did not want the institutions at the grassroots level to get politicised. But, he said if the government wishes to go ahead on party lines, AAP would be fielding candidates. He said that the names would be announced only after the notification of election process.

Meanwhile responding to media about a controversial remark against Archbishop of Goa by former MP Narendra Savoikar, Gomes said that the Archbishop as a citizen has every right to give his views and termed the reported linking of his stand against CAA to article 30 of the constitution as deplorable.
