Panaji:  Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday said that the State Director of Municipal Administration will rectify the errors committed during reservation of wards for the upcoming municipal election.

Supreme Court on Friday had upheld the order of High Court which had set aside the order of DMA on March 01 in connection with the reservation of municipal wards.

The court had asked Goa government to reconduct the exercise of reservation of wards in the five municipal councils – Margao, Mormugao, Mapusa, Sanguem and Quepem.

The bench had said that the election process in other municipalities should continue as per the schedule announced by the SEC. The elections are scheduled on March 20.

Reacting to the SC order, Sawant said that the DMA would rectify the error committed in reserving the wards.

He said that the elections for the five municipalities (which are mentioned in HC order) would be postponed while for other municipal bodies, it would be held as per the schedule.

Sawant said that the state will also appoint full-fledged State Election Commissioner as ordered by the SC in its order on Friday.

The SC has asked the state government to complete the election process by April 20.
