Digital Meters, GPS, Panic Button for Goa Taxis in six months

Panaji: Goa government will be fixing digital fare meters with printers, Global Positioning Systems along with Panic Button on all the Taxis in the state, a senior minister said.

State Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho, in a written reply, tabled on the floor of the House during ongoing Budget Session of Goa Assembly, said that the expected time to complete fitment of Fare Meters on taxis is six months.

He was responding to a Question tabled by Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat.

Godinho on Friday said that the State government  has amended Section 140 of Goa Motor Vehicles Rules 1991 wherein every motor cab to be fitted with digital fare meter with printer, Global Positioning System (GPS) alongwith Panic Button.

“After floating e-tender, work order is issued to empanelled vendor to supply devices. Government will soon start fitment of devices on taxis. Expected time to complete the fitment of Fare Meters on taxis is six months,” he said.

Goa has 674 Yellow/Black Taxis, 14,575 All India Taxis (permit to go out of the state), 2,593 All Goa Taxis and 2,250 APP based Taxis, the reply tabled on the floor of the House reads.

Goa also has unique two-wheeler motorcycle taxis. Godinho said there are 1,246 motorcycle taxis in the state.

Godinho said that state government has given permission to M/s. Frotamiles Private Limited to operate Goa Miles App based Aggregator.
