The dialysis unit based at Community Health Centre Valpoi which was started by Health Minister Vishwajit Rane in the year 2018 has become very useful for the Cronic Kidney Patients from Sattari and Bicholim Taluka.

The centre caters to 61 Cronic Kidney Patients for dialysis free of cost, who otherwise had to travel a long distance to Goa Medical college or spend a few thousand at the private hospital.

Senior Doctor at CHC Valpoi Dr Shyam Kankonkar said the centre has conducted more than 12400 dialysis for renal patients, and it is one of the best initiatives started by Hon. Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, “I remember when a patient who takes dialysis at our centre walked to us and said that it becomes difficult for him to buy an Erythropoietin injection. Erythropoietin is the costly injection given to the patient on dialysis, 3 to 4 injections are required to be given to the patient every month. Patients had to buy this injection from outside which was becoming a burden for them. This message was immediately conveyed to Health Minister Vishwajit Rane who immediately made this available for the patients free of cost”.

One of the patient who takes dialysis at CHC Valpoi said that it was very difficult for him to travel to Goa Medical college twice or thrice a week to get dialysis. He says “Traveling was very difficult and then waiting for long hours for my turn was again the biggest task. But since the dialysis unit at Valpoi started it becomes very easy for us. Every month I had to spend around 15 to 17 thousand for the Erythropoietin injection before but it was made free by the Health Minister in a few days when this centre was opened. I thank Health minister Vishwajit Rane for this”.
