Panaji:  Hours after Goa Forward Party (GFP) announced that it will make public the contour of next Goa government in the poll bound state, All India Congress Committee General Secretary Dinesh Gundu Rao has admitted that the party do not want to repeat the mistakes of 2017 elections.

Speaking to reporters in Panaji, Rao said that Congress want to achieve a “proper alignment”before the finalisation of the alliance with regional parties and mistakes of 2017 election will not be repeated.

The congress party had refused to form alliance with Goa Forward party in 2017 Goa polls. GFP Chief Vijai Sardesai on Sunday had announced that his party would be revealing to the state the contours of the next government by December 19 and had vowed to liberate Goa from price rise, corruption and misrule.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, Rao had said that alignment with the like-minded parties was crucial for alliance. He also revealed that Congress is in discussion with NCP, GFP and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party for alliance during the upcoming Goa elections.

Goa is celebrating its 60th year of liberation from Portuguese rule on December 19,  2021, which is commemorated as Goa’s liberation day.

The similarities in both statements signals the beginning of the much anticipated alliance of major non BJP parties in Goa, which has been in much discussion for long.

Sardesai, however, has been guarded in his response and has sought to put the ball in Congress’ court when asked whether alliance with the party was on the cards.
