Panaji: Goa Congress on Wednesday protested against the stalled payment of senior citizens under Dayanand Social Security scheme. Present for the protest were IYC president Varad Mardolkar, GPCC vice president Sankalp Amonkar, Janardhan Bhandari and other congress leaders. Addressing the press, Amonkar alleged that six to eight months have passed but the senior citizens under the DSS scheme have not yet received any money. “The department has given us escapist answers for the delay by stating they are doing a survey, Directorate of Social Welfare is putting the blame on Directorate of accounts meanwhile the senior citizens suffer,” Amonkar said.
“If by October 31 the funds are not put in the accounts of senior citizens then we will protest with senior citizens at Directorate of Social welfare on November 1,” Amonkar warned.
Taking a dig at the government, Varad Mardolkar said, “The irony is government servants get their salary on time but senior citizens have to suffer at this age to get money under the DSS scheme. Government has money but no priorities, they want to build Raj Bhavan, Secretariat, but not help these elderly people.”
