Panaji: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday said that the athletic stadium constructed at Bambolim village near Goa would be named after late Milkha Singh.
Sawant said that the state government will also give names of local sportsmen to various other stadiums in Goa.
“We will be naming Bambolim stadium after late Milkha Singh, who was known as flying sikh,” he said adding that the names of various Goan sportspersons would be given to other stadiums in the state.
The chief minister was addressing gathering after felicitating Sportspersons at Indoor Stadium Campal in Panaji.
He said that the state has created sports infrastructure worth Rs 300 crore, which should be put to optimum use to nurture sporting talent in the state. Sawant also appealed the Physical Education teachers from various schools and colleges and coaches attached to Sports Authority of Goa to encourage the students go for sports activities for their physical fitness.
