Panaji: A staggering 95 per cent of Goans want taxi services to go digital, Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho told the House on Monday.
Speaking during demands for grants on his department on Monday late evening on the floor of the House, Godinho said that bringing taxis on online platforms will benefit the customers and also the owners of these vehicles.
He said that the state government had recently published Goa Transport Aggregators’ Guidelines to bring all the taxis on online platforms.
Godinho said that the decision was taken after the survey conducted by the state government revealed that 95 per cent of the people wanted that the taxi service should be available on the mobile application.
The minister said that the guidelines were kept for the public scrutiny and the state government will take the decision on it, only after consulting all the MLAs and the Taxi operators.
He said that the chief minister will soon call for the meeting to discuss and resort the issue.
Speaking further, the minister said that there is excess number of rent-a-cabs in Goa, which are main reasons for accidents and loss of lives on the road.
“The rent-a-cabs go berserk. There are too many rent a cars. The road accidents are caused because of them,” he said.
The minister said that drunken and untrained drivers driving rent-a-cabs cause accidents.
