Panaji: Congress party in Goa on Thursday questioned the fate of Goans who have accepted the Portuguese passport in the wake of Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) passed in the parliament on Wednesday.

Congress’ Goa Spokesman Trajano D’Mello, addressing a press conference on Wednesday, also questioned silence of Christian MLAs and ministers in Pramod Sawant-led cabinet over their stand on the CAB.

D’Mello said that passing of the bill in the parliament marks the darkest day for the Indian Constitution.

The Christian ministers in Sawant-led government should explain their stand on the Bill within 48 hours, or else their silence would be interpreted as the support to it.

D’Mello questioned as what would be the fate of Goans who have opted for Portuguese passport for decent livelihood and working in Europe in the wake of the Bill.

“So many Goans opted for Portuguese passport because the government has failed to provide them employment,” he said.

“The only purpose to get Portuguese passport was  to survive because government has failed to create employment opportunities in the State,” he said.

D’Mello said that Congress’ State unit stands by its national policy of opposing this CAB.

“The passage of the Bill marks the darkest day for Indian Constitution.  The outfall of it can be seen in North Eastern states. Curfew has been imposed in Guwahati,” he said.

D’Mello said that the happening in North Eastern States indicates that we are heading for second freedom struggle.
