Vasco: Goa police have filed FIR against Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha Goa President Tushar Kelkar and others for unlawful assembly during the recent visit of All India Congress Committee President Mallikarjun Kharge.
Dabolim Airport Police on August 22 has filed FIR against Kelkar and others for forming unlawful assembly during the visit of Kharge on August 17.
Kharge was on his two-day-long visit to the coastal state during which the BJP Yuva Morcha workers led by Kelkar had shown him black flags over alleged insult to Vande Mataram.
Congress Goa leader Advocate Archit Naik had filed a formal complaint against the protestors at Dabolim Airport Police station, the next day of the incident.
The FIR has been filed against Kelkar and others under section 189 (2) and 189 (3) of BNS which deals with the unlawful assembly.
The Congress party in Goa, however, has said that the FIR was merely an eyewash.
Congress Goa spokesman Amit Palekar told reporters in Panaji on Wednesday that FIR has been registered but it is merely an eyewash.
“Why have the relevant stringent provisions of the BNS has been left out? Where are the provisions relating to rioting, unlawful restraint, attacking a Z-Plus security convoy, assaulting security personnels, using flag sticks to attack, and abusive and threatening conduct,” he questioned.
Palekar said that the act by BJP Yuva morcha “was not minor” “A protected security convoy was obstructed and security personnel were confronted and attacked. Such conduct demands serious and appropriate sections of law.”
