Panaji: At the backdrop of three tiger killings in four days in Mahadayi Wildlife Sanctuary,

Congress party in Goa on Wednesday said that the “tiger poachers are flourishing under the protection of BJP government.”

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar, in a press statement issued here, has said that the incidents of tiger killings, that happened in Mahadayi Wildlife Sanctuary, were “shocking.”

“Like drug trade, Tiger poachers are flourishing under the active patronage and protection of Goa’s BJP government,” he said.

Chodankar said that the tiger deaths are happening in well forested constituencies which are under the BJP itself.

“This disgusting and deplorable turn of events and BJP government’s silence is a clear indicator that the BJP is hand in glove with the poachers,” he said.

Referring to Goa’s  dispute over Mahadayi river with Karnataka, the Congress leader said “with the destruction of Mahadayi, BJP-led Goa government now killing our animals.”

Chodankar said that three tigers dead in one week’s time and Goa’s collapsed and insensitive BJP government has no answers.

“This is shocking and distressing that we have lost four tigers during BJP rule in this state and three in just the past week alone,” he said pointing out to earlier tiger killing in Goa.

Chodankar alleged that chief minister Pramod Sawant has failed on all fronts, including protection to India’s National Animal.

“We demand with Chief Minister to come clear on status of protection of these magnificent representative of India’s biodiversity in Goa,” he said.

Chodankar said that the claws of the dead tiger are missing and tigress was killed and buried, while government has maintained silence on the incidents.
