Porvorim: The investigation into the firing at casino businessman Srinivas Nayak in Porvorim has been handed over to the Crime Branch, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant told the State Legislative Assembly on Monday.
The issue was raised by Goa Forward Party MLA Vijai Sardesai, who moved an adjournment motion to discuss what he termed the collapse of law and order in the state.
“The case is under investigation. The case has been handed over to the Crime Branch,” Sawant told the House.
Nayak, Director of Majestic Pride Hotels and Resorts, was targeted by two unidentified assailants outside a five-star property in Porvorim at around 8:45 pm on Friday.
According to police, the two men fired three rounds at Nayak as he was about to leave the hotel. He escaped unhurt, while his security personnel retaliated, forcing the assailants to flee.
CCTV footage from the area showed the two men waiting near the hotel gate before opening fire at Nayak’s vehicle, police said.
Majestic Pride Hotels and Resorts operates both offshore and onshore casinos in Goa and also owns the five-star property where the incident took place.
The Porvorim Police had earlier registered an FIR against two unidentified persons and launched a search to trace them. The case was being investigated from various angles, including the possible motive behind the attack.
