Porvorim: In what can attract suspension for Anjuna and Pernem police inspectors, Superintendent of Police (North) Chandan Chaudhury led the mission to curb matka gambling in their area.
Total eleven persons were arrested recovering Rs 60 lakh from these places in a series of raids today. Police are also tracking the link of matka to Mumbai.
The entire operation was done keeping in dark local police stations, who were caught red handed ignoring matka gambling even as High Court has ordered its closure.
Those arrested includes Reginaldo D’Costa and ten others including Ankush Parab, Laxmikant Gawde, Gajanan Morje, Pravin Parsekar, Agnel Fernandez, Laxmikant Mhamal, Pratap Salgaonkar, Anthony D’Souza, Vithal Goltekar and Damodar Govekar.
