Porvorim: If railway tracks are doubled, it will cause coal dust pollution, water will get contaminated, villagers will become prisoners in their own land, Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha said. Saldanha met chief minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday to discuss the doubling of railway lines issue.
Speaking to reporters Saldanha said, “The project is undertaken so that it can facilitate the transport of coal. This type of project can be undertaken in the state of Karnataka because they are a huge state as compared to Goa and therefore a large forest cover. The vibrations produced from the railways will damage the houses nearby._
“I have discussed the matter with CM, he has said he will investigate to understand the ground reality of the situation,” she added.
The locals of Mollem have been agitating over this issue. Saldanha opined that she anticipates the CM will come out with an investigation report in seven days.
It may be recalled that former chief minister late Manohar Parrikar had not approved of the double tracking of the railway lines. It will be interesting to see what the incumbent chief minister decides in this matter who is otherwise speaking of Parrikar’s good deeds and following his legacy.
