Panaji: The students wing of Congress party, National Students Union of India (NSUI) has tried to create a controversy over non inclusion of picture of Jawaharlal Nehru in tenth standard social science text book. They pointed out that picture of Veer Savarkar is included in it, trying to give saffron colour to entire controversy. But the real thing they failed to acknowledge is that the book was printed in the year 2014, almost four years back.

NSUI Goa Unit President Ahraz Mulla in a bid to paint Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education claimed that Jawaharlal Nehru was replaced with Savarkar, but failed to understand that picture of Motilal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi were still in the text book.

Board chairman Ramakrishna Samant, when contacted, said that the book was revised in the year 2014 when they shifted from NCERT book to the one compiled by the board. The committee of experts finalized the book.

While NSUI pointed out that the old book had picture of Nehru which was dropped, the students’ wing systematically tried to hide the fact that picture of Bharat Mata and Lokmanya Tilak was also dropped.

Talking about the content, Samant said that the pictures in the book were inserted as per the requirement of the content.

“We were using text book of NCERT from 2007-2014 which was discontinued to be replaced by the new one. The earlier book had picture of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Lokmanya Tilak and Bharat Mata. But the new version don’t have those pictures as the expert committee has taken the decision as per the content,” he said.

Samant said that the picture of Motilal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi is there in the book, which has been a part of curriculum since the year 2014. He said that the book was part of the curriculum since last four years.

The NSUI which pumped half information to the media failed to do their proper homework before sitting for a press conference.
