Ponda: Goa Mining People’s Front (GMPF) has decided to postpone its Public meeting scheduled to be held in Panaji on March 16.
GMPF President Puti Gaonkar, in a press statement, has said that the managing committee had a meeting today to review the call given by GMPF for a public rally on 16th March 2021 (with trucks and machineries) from all mining belts via Ponda to Panjim inorder to mark our protest with the Govrrnment for not resolving our livelihood issue by restarting mining in Goa.
In the meeting it is decided to put on hold the said rally on account of following reasons:
1) In view of the ensuing Panjim Municipal elections code of conduct.
2) In a meeting with our Hon’ble CM on 8th March 2021, GMPF is given to understand that the current mining matter in Supreme Court is in its final stage and the Govt is confident that some positive outcome is expected which will pave the way ahead for immediate mining restart in the state.
Hence it is decided to keep on hold all protest march and Dharna by GMPF till 31st March 2021.
However GMPF will continue to organise the corner meetings to update the mining dependents the developments in Supreme Court, update the Goverments initiatives , placing our demands to Goverment through such public forums and other issues that are connected with mining restart inuding the malicious moves by NGO Goa foundation to be a stumbling block to restart mining in Goa.
