Khaunte ‘hopeful’ on DSSY payout

Panaji: Appreciating chief minister Pramod Sawant’s announcement to release the much awaited Dayanand Samajik Suraksha Yojana (DSSY) amount to beneficiaries, Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte said that he is hopeful that the beneficiaries receive the payment and that its just not another media statement.
This comes a day after Khaunte hit out at the government stating that the government’s inefficiency has elevated uncertainty among the senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
“The inefficiency of this govt has left several sr. citizens & persons with disability in a constant mode of panic & uncertainty. Dayanand Social Security Scheme beneficiaries, who are dependent on their govt pension, haven’t received their dues since February!” Khaunte wrote on a tweet on Thursday.
Chief minister Sawant on the occasion of Senior Citizens Day celebration announced that pending DSSY amount will be released to beneficiaries. He also condemned on the delay of the payout during a videoconference.
After the CM’s announcement Khante tweeted, “Glad that CM has taken note of my pointer regarding delayed DSSY payments. Hope this isn’t just another media statement and the beneficiaries will actually get the payment at the earliest.”
The DSSY provides Rs 2000 per month to senior citizens, persons with disabilities and other needy people. However, it has been reported that people in the state haven’t been receiving this amount since May 2020.
