Panaji: Goa government on Tuesday announced holiday for schools and higher secondary schools in the state on Wednesday, August 7, due to incessant rains that has hit the state, flooding several low lying areas.
After holding meeting with chief minister Pramod Sawant, State Director of Education Nagraj Honnekeri told reporters that the primary, high and higher secondary schools in the state will have one day holiday on August 7.
Goa has been witnessing heavy rains since last seven days, due to which several low lying areas are inundated. State government has initiated several rescue operations with families being evacuated from the areas like Pilgao, Sankhalim and Usgao in North Goa.
Mandovi river has been flowing above the danger line in several stretches flooding the villages on its bank. Senior government official said that Sonal village in Sattari taluka has cut from the mainstream for more than 24 hours now as the roads leading to it has been flooded.
