Porvorim: Law Minister Aleixo Sequeira told the House on Friday that there is shortage of 18 judges in different courts including District Courts and Judicial Magistrate First Class across the state.
In a written reply tabled on the floor of the House, Sequeira has given details of shortage of judges in each Court including the Civil and Criminal Courts in the state, calculating to 18 judges in ten different courts.
The minister has said the highest shortage of judges is in Civil and Criminal Courts Margao (South Goa) where there is requirement of four more Judges.
The data tabled on the floor of the House also mentions that there is shortage of three Judges at District and Sessions Court, South Goa in Margao town.
Two Judges each are short at District & Sessions Court, North-Goa, Panaji., Civil and Criminal Court Panaji and Civil and Criminal Court, Mapusa ( all in North Goa).
One Judge each is short at Civil and Criminal Court, Ponda (South Goa)., Civil and Criminal Court, Bicholim (North Goa), Civil and Criminal Court for Gram Nyayalaya, Sattari at Valpoi (North Goa), Civil and Criminal Court, Vasco (South Goa) and Civil and Criminal Court for Gramnyayalaya, Sanguem (South Goa).
The minister said that the Additional judges strength has been calculated for the State of Goa based on the ‘Unit System’ in accordance with the interim report of the National Court Management System (NCMS) Committee as per directions of the Supreme Court.
Sequeira said that as per Article 229 of the Constitution the entire process of filling up the p of Judicial Officer is done High Court of Bombay.
The minister, in a detailed reply, has mentioned that the process to fill the vacancies of the Judges is on.
