Goa creates infrastructure to treat cancer patients: Vishwajit Rane

Porvorim: Health Minister Vishwajir Rane  told the House on Friday that the lifestyle is one of the reason for increasing number of cancer cases in the state.

Responding to a Question tabled by Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco on the floor of the House, Rane said that state government is serious about the cancer cases in the state and the facilities are being created to treat it in the government run Goa medical college and hospital.

The minister said that cancer is on the growth but nobody is able to point out the reason behind it. “With the innovation and technology, we are able to detect cases of cancer more compared to the past,” he said.

“In Goa, lifestyle plays important role.  It is not whether person is vegetarian or non-vegetarian. There are several issues related to lifestyle creating problems. Along with other diseases, cancer is also coming on the forefront,” Rane said.

The minister said that the GMC has started Out Patient Department for the cancer patients and also the process is set in motion to appoint the Oncologist. He said that around one thousand cancer cases were detected during last one year.

“We restarted the cancer registry from September 2018 so that we can have a data base,” he said.
