Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Wednesday to discuss the crucial issue of Mahadayi river dispute with neigbouring Karnataka, his office said.

Sawant left for Delhi on Tuesday evening after he got appointment with the Prime Minister to meet on Wednesday morning.

Goa and Karnataka are in a bitter dispute over Mahadayi River water diversion. While Inter-State Water Dispute Tribunal has distributed share of the river between Goa, Maharashtra and Karnataka, all the three states have filed petition before the Supreme Court (SC) against the award.

“CM has left for New Delhi to bring to the notice of the PM that Karnataka has been violating the orders of Tribunal and the SC,” a CMO official said, refusing to elaborate further.

He said that all the issues related to Mahadayi dispute would be discussed with the Prime Minister, seeking his intervention to persuade Karnataka from violating the court orders and acting against the interest of Goa.
