Panaji: Goa Cricket Association has appealed State chief minister Pramod Sawant to hold a meeting to discuss construction of an international cricket stadium in the state.
GCA Secretary Rohan Gauns Desai said that the issue was raised on the floor of the House during the Winter Session of the Assembly on Thursday, during which the government has said that they will conduct feasibility of having a stadium.
Desai said that the GCA is willing to go ahead with the construction of stadium, provided the state government is ready to help with the clearances and other aspects.
“The chief minister should immediate hold a meeting with GCA to discuss the proposal of constructing the ground,” he said.
The GCA has identified two lands one at Dhargal and another at Maulinge near Bicholim, both in North Goa, he said.
Desai said that the Association is okay with any of the land for the construction of the ground, provided there is a feasibility for it.
The issue was raised on the floor of the House on Thursday by BJP MLA Premendra Shet. State Sports Minister Govind Gaude had replied to the MLA that government will conduct feasibility of having the stadium at Dhargal.
Gaude had told the House that the land at Dhargal is leased to GCA for a period of 33 years in the year 2018.
