Dona Paula:The formation of new government in Goa by BJP after the demise of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is likely to be delayed as party’s national leader Nitin Gadkari could not convince section of coalition partners to support the new face.

Gadkari who rushed to the coastal state during mid night held series of meetings with local BJP MLAs and also with the members of Goa Forward Party, MGP and Independents, who were part of Parrikar-led government.

While it was expected that a consensus candidate would be announced after the meeting, Goa Forward Party Chief Vijai Sardesai, emerging from meeting, said that they were yet to reach to the conclusion.

He said that the meeting remained inconclusive and “BJP has informed them that they will get back later during the day.”

Sardesai said that they had expressed certain apprehensions on how to go ahead with the government in absence of Parrikar. “We are expecting them to respond to our apprehensions soon,” he said.

The GFP leader said that they have not yet shut the doors on BJP but will wait for their communication.

Sardesai was accompanied by both of his MLAs – Jayesh Salgaonkar and Vinod Palyekar and Independents Rohan Khaunte,  Govind Gawade and Prasad Gaonkar.

MGP leader Sudin Dhavalikar said that Gadkari held one-to-one meeting with the MLAs and asked them certain questions.

“I can’t disclose about the questions as they are confidential. We are expecting Gadkari to announce name of the CM candidate in next one hour after that MGP will take proper resolution supporting the government,” he said.

With the demise of Parrikar, the strength of 40-member Goa legislative Assembly has been reduced to 36. BJP MLA Francis D’Souza had expired last month while two Congress members had resigned to join BJP.
