Foreign tourist arrivals have increased in Goa

Panaji: Goa government on Wednesday told the House that the number of foreign tourists arriving in the coastal state have been on the rise during last three years.

State tourism minister Manohar Ajgaonkar in a written reply tabled on the floor of the House said that 9.33 lakh tourists arrived during calendar year 2018 as against 8.90 lakh for the year 2017 and 6.80 lakh for the year 2016.

Ajgaonkar said that except, for Russia, there has not been any major reduction of Charter flights for Goa. “However, the Number of Tourists arrival by Charter is reduced marginally,” he added.

For the tourist season 2017-18, total 2.47 lakh foreign tourists arrived by chartered flights but their number was decreaed to 2.18 lakh for the year 2018-19, he said.

Ajgaonkar said that the department is making all efforts to ensure foreign tourists arrive in Goa. “However, it is left upto the tourists and the travel agents to decide the best mode of transportation whether to travel by charter or otherwise,” the minister added.

Goa Tourism has organized various FAM trips for the prominent Tour operators and media persons and showcased Goa in a big way by property visits and things to do in Goa of their interest, Ajgaonkar said.

He said that Goa tourism with a view to promote Goa worldwide participates and organizes tourism related events/road shows at international and domestic markets, to attract tourists to the state.

“Goa tourism has empanelled professional agencies to manage and co-ordinate the Goa tourism pavilion and to disseminate proper and correct information and to be professionally presentable during their participations. Besides this, Goa tourism executes various media campaigns in electronic and print media for promotion of Goa Tourismm,” he stated.
