Panaji: Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday led Tiranga Yatra in the capital city to observe “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.”
Sawant accompanied by BJP Goa President Sadanand Shet Tanavade, State Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte, State Revenue Minister Atanasio Mosnerratte and others walked from Old Secretariat to historic Azad Maidan in Panaji.
The chief minister said that the yatra has been flagged off from the place where tri-colour was hoisted for the first time after Goa’s Liberation from the Portuguese rule.
Sawant said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ushered the country into new era of development. “The initiatives like Start Up India and others are contributing for the progress of the country,” he said.
The chief minister said that the similar yatra has been organised in Margao today (Saturday) which will be led by State Public Works Department Minister Nilesh Cabral.
Sawant said that the freedom fighters who contributed for the liberation of Goa will be felicitated on the occasion of India’s Independence.
More than 1,000 citizens, students from different schools participated in the yatra carrying the National Flags.
