Panaji: Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) National Convener Arvind Kejriwal on Monday assured resumption of mining industry in Goa within six months of his party assuming power in the state.

Kejriwal, who toured Valpoi, Poriem and Sankhalim Assembly constituencies on Monday, also assured that those who were deprived of their land rights would be given within six months of formation of government.

The Delhi Chief Minister also assured the people dependent on mining industry to enact a special legislation prioratising jobs for them in the industry, when it resumes.

The land rights of tribals and re-starting of mining industry are two of the important issues in the poll-bound state.

AAP has already announced that they will be paying Rs 5,000 per month allowance for each of the mining dependents’ family till the industry resumes.

“I have come here to understand how we can resume the mining industry. Also, I want to know how you all have survived for last 10 years since the closure of mining industry,” he said interacting with the mining dependents at Pale village in Sankhalim Assembly Constituency.

The industry had stopped in the year 2012 but resumed for a short time before shutting down in the year 2018 after Supreme Court quashed 88 mining leases.

After interacting with the mining dependents, Kejriwal said that the party would ensure that the employment in the mining industry would be given on priority to those who are dependent on this sector.

He said that once voted to power, his party government will ensure that mining will resume within six months and till then, each of the family would be provided the allowance of Rs 5,000 per month.

Earlier during the day, interacting with the villagers at Karmali-Budruk in Sattari taluka, Kejriwal said that his party will hand over the land rights to the tribals within six months of assuming power in the state.

He said that the party has always delivered what it has promised.
