Goan students stranded in Ukraine contact Goa govt

Panaji: Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant has said that six Goan students are stranded in the Ukraine, whose families have contacted the State government seeking for the help.

State Commission for NRI had initiated exercise of calling out for all the Goans, who are stranded in the Ukraine amidst heightened tension there.

Sawant told reporters on Saturday that six Goan students have been reported to be stranded in the Ukraine, whose families have contacted the State government for the support.

Sawant said that his government is in constant touch with Embassy of India in Ukraine for safe rescue of these students. “We have already initiated the process to bring these students back home after their families established contact with the State government,” the chief minister said.

He said that if there are more students, who are stranded, their families should immediately contact the state government for help.

When contacted, a senior official from NRI Commission said that they don’t have exact data of the Goans who are in the Ukraine. “We are in the process of collecting and compiling the data,” he said.

Sawant, through his official Facebook page, had said that his government was working with the Embassy of India in Ukraine to ensure safe evacuation of Goans stranded there.
