Margao: Goa Forward Party Chief Vijai Sardesai has claimed that the land scam involving Zuari Agro Chemicals Private Limited is worth Rs 50,000 crore, which is double to the debt of the State.

Sardesai claimed that an influential politician and another leader was wholeheartedly supporting the scam. He also questioned silence of “those parties which were speaking for Goa before election” on the issue.

The GFP chief said that the mutation of the land was done within a day, reflecting the the performance of the state government to help the company.

Sardesai has demanded that the TCP should immediately ban conversions of the land. He said that the TCP Minister vishwajit Rane who is proactive in case of Calangute-Candolim, Parra-Nagoa and Mormugao ODPs should also act against this illegal conversion of the land.

Sardesai said that during the TCP meeting held on Thursday, the general sentiment was that the land should be used to expand Sancoale Industrial Estate, rather than allowing the Real Estate to take it over.

The Fatorda MLA claimed that the land which was allotted to the company in 60s for “peanut price” for the purpose of industrialisation is being used for commercial purpose.

He said that mega housing projects, with 1,200 flats is taking shape, while the land is being sold in piecemeal by the company. Sardesai has demanded Commission of Inquiry into the conversion and sale of the land.

“The land was allotted for the purpose of industrialisation by then chief minister Dayanand Bandodkar. But the current government has allowed the conversion of land for real estate purpose,” said the former Deputy Chief minister.

He demanded that Goa government should revert back the land and allot it for the industrial purpose.
