Borimol, July 26: United Brothers, owned by Adv. Pankaj Dabholkar, emerged champions of the All Goa Advocates 9-A-Side Football Tournament, organised by the United Goan Advocates Association and led by Adv. Vinay Patkar, after defeating Strikers in a thrilling penalty shootout at the SAG Ground, Borimol, Quepem.
The final lived up to expectations, with both teams producing an exciting display of attacking football. At the end of regulation time, the scores were locked at 2-2, with Alphy D’Souza scoring the crucial equaliser for United Brothers to force the match into a penalty shootout. United Brothers held their nerve in the shootout to overcome Strikers and lift the coveted championship title.
One of the major highlights of the tournament was the impressive performance of the Pernem team, the new entrants in the competition. Under the captaincy of Adv. Ronit Naik, the team played fearless and attractive football throughout the tournament, earning admiration from players and spectators alike.
Prosecutors FC also received praise for being one of the most disciplined teams in the tournament, displaying excellent teamwork, commitment, and exemplary sportsmanship throughout the competition.
Among the individual honours, Shivam Kalangutkar of United Brothers was adjudged the Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament and received the Golden Glove Award for his outstanding performances between the posts. Alphy D’Souza, whose vital equalising goal in the final kept United Brothers in the contest, finished as the tournament’s highest goal scorer and was deservedly presented with the Golden Boot Award.
The biggest prize of all—the coveted Champions Trophy—was proudly lifted by Adv. Vinayak “Mama” Porob on behalf of United Brothers amidst loud cheers from teammates, fellow advocates, and spectators, bringing a memorable conclusion to an exciting and fiercely contested tournament.
The two-day tournament witnessed enthusiastic participation from advocates across Goa and successfully promoted sportsmanship, fitness, friendship, and unity within the legal fraternity.
The organisers thanked all the participating advocates, match officials, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters for making the event a grand success and expressed hope that the tournament would continue to grow as one of Goa’s premier sporting events for advocates.
