Margao: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Monday inaugurated a new Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) facility at the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH) in Margao, stating that the addition would strengthen diagnostic services and reduce the burden on the Goa Medical College (GMC).

Rane said the MRI unit marks another milestone in the government’s efforts to transform the South Goa District Hospital into a state-of-the-art healthcare institution.

The facility will bring advanced diagnostic services closer to the people, reduce the need for patients to be referred to the Goa Medical College, minimise travel, and ensure accessible and affordable healthcare in South Goa, he said.

“We will continue strengthening SGDH with advanced facilities to make it a comprehensive healthcare hub for South Goa,” the minister said in a post on X after inaugurating the facility.

During his visit, Rane also interacted with doctors, healthcare professionals, and hospital staff, and held a brainstorming session to discuss ways to further strengthen health infrastructure and improve patient care.

He said a robust healthcare system is built not only on modern infrastructure but also on the commitment of healthcare professionals who serve patients with compassion every day.

The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to making Goa’s healthcare model stronger, more accessible, and people-centric.
