Tribunal verdict on Mhadei should be challenged in SC- demands congress

Panaji: Congress party has demanded that State government should challenge the Mhadei Water Dispute Tribunal (MWDT) award before Supreme Court without any delay as it is going to have a long term impact on the State.

Addressing media persons on Thursday, Congress spokesperson Adv Yatish Naik pointed out that Mandovi river basin is spread over 1,580 sq kms and extends in six talukas- Sattari, Bicholim, Sanguem, Ponda, Tiswadi and Bardez with aout 92 villages falling in the river basin with a cultivable land of 91,072 ha.

Congress leader said that the verdict will have far reaching long-term impact on the State. “We therefore demand that the State government challenge the award of the tribunal before the Supreme Court forthwith and without any delay so as to ensure that justice is done to Goa,” Naik demanded.

He said that the detail reading of the tribunal award, which runs in 12 volumes, reveals that the State government has miserably failed in protecting Goa’s interest.
