Panaji: The statement by Tourism Minister Manohar Azgaonkar about the existence of a Godfather for drug trade has shattered the entire Goa, who now wants that the minister should reveal the name of the person said Shiv Sena’s Goa spokesman Rakhi Prabhudesai Naik.

“Shiv Sena has always been voicing its concern against the drug trade and how our young generation has been falling prey to it. But State government has been rebutting our statement with the claim that Anti Narcotic Cell has been conducting raids on the drug paddlers,” she said.

Naik said the confession of Azgaonkar has come as a support to our claim that narcotics have become a major nuisance in the State. Azgaonkar has said that there is a Godfather to it.

The minister should make us know the name of the Godfather who is involved in drug trade. If Azgaonkar feels that naming him in public is not right, then he should at least provide the information to Chief Minister or Police department.

Azgaonkar’s statement is also a confirmation that law and order situation in the State has gone to the lowest ebb. Never ever in past, we have seen ministers admitting about the trade and existence of the Godfather.

We cannot allow mafia to take its roots in Goa and if they are already here, then there is a need to weed it out completely.

It is a high time that BJP-led government should either curb the drug menace or step down conceding that they can’t rule the state. The public confession from a minister is not a welcome sign.
